Dion's Camp Runs Into Trouble
TDH Strategies posted today about rumours that the Dion campaign is quickly running out of money to the point where some formerly paid organizers are now being asked to carry on without financial compensation. Later, TDH updated their site to mention that the information regarding the financial shape of the campaign has been confirmed by another source.
There are a lot of rumours going around that this is the case - Dion is running out of steam. Apparently an event, hosted recently in BC, was only attended by 9 people. Also, the change in the campaign's tone - Dion wanting to rebuff his image - is just another signal that Dion is falling behind.
Dion isn't one of my top picks, but I like him a lot. He has been a huge contribution to the Party and Canada as a whole. Dion made sure the environment played a significant role in his campaign platform, and for that, I truly commend him.
I posted in the past that I would never support Rae and that he would be a lousy leader for the Liberals. Indeed, he brings a lot of baggage, but after hearing Rae speak this weekend in Abbotsford, I am convinced that if Michael Ignatieff were to lose to what are probably the two other front runners in the race, Gerard Kennedy and Bob Rae, I would perfectly content to support them and would have confidence in their abilities to successfully lead our Party .

I seriously look forward to watching Bob Rae take down Iggy in a debate.
Dion has had some $ trouble but so is Iggy. He had to cancel a $1000 a person fundraiser in Quebec that was being organized by Carolina Galo Lafleche. Interesting enough, Scott Brison held a fundraiser in that same vunue two days later with well over 100 high paying patrons.
If Dion is having money issues it is really too bad - because he actually has a lot of members, and youth.
At almost every event they seem to have the most young people with buttons on - and huge blogger support.
Unfortunatly, bloggers and young Liberals don't have any money to donate.

All the campaigns are on a steep learning curve - no question.
It is starting to look more and more like a three-horse race, so Dion might as well keep trying to keep pace with the big two Kennedy and Iggy.
If Rae wants to keep in this thing he's going to have to do something pretty special soon.
Hey no kidding about Rae. I think the media has been best to Iggy. They've been good to Kennedy too.
I'm really impressed with the Kennedy camp. They've been making some great progress.
Personally, I think Dion will end up like Brison - they'll plateau.
Saw this headline on Bourque: Mystery: Who is Mondach Stephanos and why whopping $200,000 loan to Stephanne Dion. The link goes nowhere. I'm puzzled. I'm baffled. Anyone know what this is about?
The most recent elections canada update showed a 200,000$ donation from Stephanos for Dion.
look it up at electionscanada.com
The "big 4" look to be Iggy, Kennedy, Rae, and Dion at this point, but you could always have one of the other 11 surprise some people, especially given the convention format.
I think it's only natural for Dion to have a rough patch too - the other three all have had their ups and downs in this race so far.
Personally, I doubt it's a "rough" patch. I'm going to predict the Brison Effect for Dion's camp.
I say the end will be between Iggs and Kennedy
In fairness all the leadership candidates should reveal all of their donors and loaners to take the heat off of Joe. Rae borrowed 100K from Powercorp....er... his brother John Rae and Iggy borrowed 100K from Senator Keith Davys' son. Although Apotex is only kicking back a fraction of the money they made from the patent busting sole source muti-million dollar contract issued by the Liberal cabinet of the day during the anthrax scare, I believe it is cheap politics to single him out. Disclose the rest (obviously not the brown envelopes and the "volunteers" on someone else's company payroll for the nine month campaign) but come on Liberals show Joe a little love.
