Fry Had Better Watch Herself

I am competely disappointed with the flyers that members of Hedy Fry's campaign have been handing out in downtown Calgary, begging people to become members of the Liberal Party so they can stop Michael Ignatieff. In fact, members of the "anything-but-Ignatieff" campaign even have a website.

In all fairness, the group distributing these flyers claim to not be Liberal members... still, though, they give an endorsement to Fry, so I'm thinking that's a big cover-up.

I hope Fry cleans this whole mess up very quickly. If she is so committed to rebuilding our Party, then she should stop this asap.
*** Thanks to Aristo from One Warm Line, for raising attention to this.

I knew from the start that this candidate would be the first one to mud-sling other candidates.

...wait. Do I hear desperation?

Why does this diappoint youwhenit is only Mr. Iganttieff own writtings and words that are being used against him in the links.

All of his previous writings and speeches are fair game. Many of them are deeply disturbing.

You can't argue agianst it when its his own words Pedro, you have to accept that that is the person you are supporting.

You can say he didn't mean this or he didn't mean that, but he wrote it.

The conservatives no doubt already have an arsenal of quotes from things he has said or written to use against us if he becomes leader.

For this and many other reasons he is a hopelessly inappropriate choice for Liberal leader. He is unelectable, really. Unelectable!

I have to agree with s.b.
Ignatieff is the Conservative's dream candidate. We already got a taste of what is to come when they remarked on his absence from Canada in Question Period. That will be the tip of the iceberg.

You can support whoever you want, but a candidate with controversial baggage and past writings invites more controversy-some will say that is wrong but just like anything controversial, many will say it is right. Get used to it.

A Good liberal does not run down a person running for the leadership. You do not have to be so nasty..the Conservatives are trying to make him look bad,, because they do not want him to run, as he might win and be their nightmare.....and for you to say you read him, take another the whole thing, you may find it not quite what you thought...grow up darlin'...

there is no proof Hedy is behind this....
in fact she has links to all the candidates on her site.

I'm suspicious that this is a plant and not someone seriously affiliated with Fry (altho that authentic # may be no deeper than 'pick a number between 1-10') ... I'm beginning to wonder just how far SB would go to tear at the party with the possibility of Ignatieff becoming leader. Certainly he has baggage, but so do all of them (being 'unknown' or 'barely bilingual' can be considered as carry-on, but it is baggage just the same). Didn't someone like Wells right a great article popping the argument about baggage, anyways?

It looks to me like some Conservatives are trying very hard to avoid having to face Ignatieff in a federal election.

Nothing personal against Hedy Fry (I happen to think that she is a great speaker), but she is probably the candidate LEAST likely to defeat Stephen Harper.

This kind of smear camgaign will only come back to haunt Iggy's detractors.

I agree with the person who said that a "Good" liberal does not run down a person running for the leadership.

BTW, I highly doubt Hedy Fry is behind this. The smear campaign is too vicious to be something that is endorsed by any of the candidates, not even Joe Volpe. They wouldn't be that foolish.

Yeah, I totally agree with you guys (prolifilma, anon) - it could very well be a Tory group. Iggs must be scary to them seeing as he kicks seven kinds of ass.

Anyone hear that Harper wants to introduce a bill that elections be held every four years???

The Hon Hedy Fry, MP for Vancouver Centre and Liberal leadership candidate, issued the following statement today regarding printed materials smearing another candidate. The written materials were made to look like they came from the Fry campaign. Dr. Fry has conveyed to the offended campaign that the material has no association with the Fry campaign.

"I have always abhorred vilification of character as a political device and have never employed it in my campaigns or debates. It is the sort of 'gotcha mentality' that has given politics a bad name; and generated public cynicism.

“If this party is serious about renewing itself and regaining the trust of Canadians, this is exactly the sort of behavior for which we must show zero tolerance."
